OUR VISION

The 580 Commonage Vernon Lands provides the best of both worlds: a vibrant complete community with numerous attainable housing options nestled in nature yet close to the city. Our deep respect for the land means there will also be a park protecting the most environmentally important lands featuring plenty of walking and biking trails.

Situated within the municipal boundary of Vernon and only seven minutes from downtown, the Kerkhoff Vernon lands community spans over 1,000 acres, 650 acres of this land will be left undeveloped and protected as parklands for the community and residents of Vernon in perpetuity.

The new community will bring housing attainability and socially responsible development to Vernon unlike anything found in new developments throughout Canada.

Central to the community is a thoughtfully designed town center, offering a hotel, a variety of restaurants, commercial and retail spaces, a pub, and dedicated areas for weddings and outdoor events. Situated among trees and bordered by expansive parklands, hiking paths, and trails, it will be a vibrant hub that reflects both the spirit of community and respect for the natural surroundings.

This isn’t going to be like any other development. The homes will be attainable for residents new to Vernon and for the people and families who live here now.

Young people today don’t have the same opportunity to get into the housing market as their parents did, or their grandparents. This intergenerational disparity is the result of a broken housing system. A market that no longer allows access to home ownership for the growing majority of Canadians.

The result for many, is that the dream of home ownership has disappeared. The system has failed and let them down. Now their only option is to go into the intensely competitive rental market.

Areas like Vernon used to have an abundance of home ownership opportunities. Single family houses could be purchased by working folks with modest incomes.
